Leadership ID Workshop: Day 4
Your Leadership ID will do you no good if you don’t tell people what it is.
It’s like that great pair of shoes or fancy new snowboard that has yet to see the light of day, just sitting alone in your closet, not fulfilling its purpose or potential.
Let it out!
Tell your team so they know where you are coming from. Then use it as the foundation for all that you do as a leader.
Stop guessing! Your Leadership ID will keep you on track. When you feel stuck or unsure about a decision, go back to your ID and align your choices with it. People should be able to recognize your Leadership ID in all that you say and do as a leader.
Now you don’t have to plaster it in on a billboard or post it all over social media to spread the word. There are far more subtle ways (but if you want to blast it across the Internet, I say go for it).
Incorporate your Leadership ID into your bio on your website or resume. Include it in your employee orientation or staff trainings.
Or if you are feeling bold, mention it at your next team meeting…but what would you say?
Keep it brief and say something like…
Hey, lately I’ve been thinking about my leadership and the impact I want to have so I did this AMAZING exercise [with Tamara the Millennials Mentor]. I’ve crafted my own leadership identity to help me make good choices and to help you understand where I’m coming from…it is [fill in Leadership ID].
But no matter what…be yourself.
And if that makes your cringe then you could do something more subtle and just start living it out, every day, in your leadership.
Or you could even guide your team through this exercise yourself so your entire team can have a deeper understanding of their own leadership and each other.
Not for you? Just send them my way.
However you decide to do it, just do it (sorry Nike). Let your team know.
You will see some great changes in yourself and others.
And PLEASE don’t keep your Leadership ID a secret from ME! Tell me what you came up in the last exercise and how it is influencing your leadership.
Hearing back from you, helps me develop new tools and resources for you so, don’t keep me in the dark, TELL ME, TELL ME!
Send me a quick message or post your thoughts on my Facebook Page!
