How to Create a Shared Vision

August 22, 2018 by Tamara Leave a Comment

I have an idea!

I have had so many ideas. Ideas for innovation. Ideas for change. And I think most of them were pretty darn good. But not everybody has liked my ideas.

Sound familiar?

Getting buy-in for new ideas, change, and innovation can be tough. When people aren’t interested, you are either left to go it alone or give up the idea completely. I think going it alone is the worst, because you put in the work and when it is time to implement your idea, it falls flat. And all that hard work was done in vain.

In order to make your ideas to a reality there needs to be buy-in, which is more than folks recognizing a need for change. They have to buy into the solution.

How many times have you had management inform you that there was going to be some changes and everyone grunts and roles their eyes? But because it’s coming from the top you have no choice, you have to give it a try. You begrudgingly adopt it and wait patiently for the organization to realize they need a new strategy or go back to the way things used to be.

So how you can you get buy-in for your own ideas and not end up being top down like the those at the top?

It is possible. You can learn how to turn your vision into a shared vision.

When folks are able to collaborate on a vision, they will feel more ownership not only in the vision, but also in realizing the vision. Buy-in happens when your entire team is part of developing the vision and seeing the idea through from conception to implementation.

In the second video of this leadership series, you will learn:

  1. What a Shared Vision is and why you want one.
  2. Specific steps you can take to create and embrace a shared vision.
  3. The potential outcomes of a shared vision for you, your team, and organization.
