Comparing yourself to others is a complete waste of time.
You are unique and your experiences separate you from other people.
It is easy to look around and see different models of success. Those models should inspire and encourage, not make you feel less than.
Too often we use others peoples accomplishments or success to measure our own. In reality, you can only measure yourself against your own accomplishments and your own definition of success. We make a lot of assumptions about “other” people and their success without really knowing whether or not they are actually as successful as we think they are.
It is best to focus on yourself; define success for yourself and better understand the special and unique skills and talents you have to offer. The more time you spend comparing yourself to others and feeling bad about it, the less time you are spending on you and what you want to achieve.
So use your time wisely, just do you!
This was a great post Tamara – an inspiring read at the start of the day! For me, there seems to be a fine line between becoming inspired, or feeling belittled, by someone else’s ‘success.’ Sometimes it takes someone else to tell me, ‘wow, you have done some great things’ before I begin to think of myself as a successful person. I am indeed my own worst critic! Thanks for reminding me that I need to focus on developing my own personal goals, instead of following someone else’s definition!
I’m really glad this was a helpful reminder!
